Industry experts believe that Amazon India’s upcoming flagship sale exclusively for Prime subscribers will prioritize increasing the Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) on the platform, rather than focusing solely on generating high sales volumes. These experts predict that electronics and smartphones will remain the leading categories during the Prime Day sale, which is scheduled to take place on July 15 and 16 in India. This strategic shift comes as Amazon and other ecommerce platforms face challenges due to reduced marketing investments from brands.

According to an executive at Amazon India, the upcoming sale event will feature an impressive lineup of over 45,000 new product launches from 400 brands in categories such as smartphones, fashion, and accessories. Additionally, there will be more than 2,000 new product launches from small and medium businesses.

The executive, Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Customer Fulfilment, Supply Chain, and Amazon Transportation Services at Amazon India, emphasized the company’s focus on enhancing their network for Prime Day.

They have made significant investments in infrastructure, including buildings and transportation, to support this event. Singh further highlighted the progress made in the same-day delivery program, which now covers 52 cities, an expansion of 21 cities compared to the previous year. With this expansion, a considerable number of customers are expected to receive their purchases either on the same day or the following day.

Singh further mentioned that they have successfully launched 21 buildings dedicated to supporting the same-day delivery network since Prime Day 2022. In addition, there is a specific focus on expanding the fresh grocery network. Meanwhile, several third-party fulfillment services anticipate a significant surge in business during the Prime Day sale. An anonymous senior executive from a third-party logistics company stated that Prime Day sales typically cater to a loyal customer base, with up to 60% of orders being pre-paid. The executive also revealed that they expect a substantial increase of approximately 25% in order volume during the sale period.
